SMM 057: How to Use Writing + Visualization as a Conduit to God|| Kristin Brown

My guest today is Kristin Brown. After experiencing 5 years of infertility, Kristin and her husband were excited to welcome boy/girl twins to their home. Kristin and her best friend, Laura,  have a podcast called The Progress Project, a personal growth podcast with conversations on how to improve little by little, while giving ourselves plenty of grace.

How Challenges Help Us

In the interview, Kristin shares how she learned through the trial of infertility that challenges help us learn exactly what we need to learn. She talks about how she was able to find peace and contentment even before she became a mother.

Purpose is More Than Roles

Kristin discusses how she learned her purpose is not totally wrapped up in motherhood and that she has worth whether she is a mother or not.

Writing, Visualization and Prayer

You’ll hear why Kristin turned to writing as a form of prayer and a way to recognize themes in her life. Kristin talks about how writing has became personal scripture just for her and a conduit to God.

Writing also led Kristin to visualization and she shares what she learned and how this practice has evolved for her.

Finally, Kristin and I discussed how hearing how others communicate with God helps us to explore and find our own methods of communication.

Confidence Through God

Kristin knows God is her partner in motherhood. She has gained confidence to do what she needs to do as a mom because she knows He is walking beside her.

SMM 054: My Yoke is Easy, My Burden is Light || Darla Trendler

Listen to episode 54 and hear about an experience I had recently in my life. I talk about how I learned more about the enabling power of the atonement of Jesus Christ. I also share how the Spirit taught me to give my burdens to the Savior.

Thus the enabling power of the Atonement strengthens us to do and be good and serve beyond our own individual desire and natural capacity.

SMM 048: Faith and Hope in God’s Promise to Not Leave Us Comfortless || Brittany Frank

My guest today is Brittany Frank. Brittany is a wife to her husband, Trevor, and mom to a cute one-year-old little boy. When Brittany was a junior in college and competing as a track and cross country athlete, she was involved in a rappelling accident that left her with a spinal cord injury.

In the interview, Brittany shares about her accident and how she dealt with her recovery. She explains how she felt so much hope from God from the very beginning. She also shares how she dealt with the difficult periods when the reality of her injury and the lifelong consequences started to sink in.

She shared a beautiful scripture found in John 14:18: I will not leave you comfortless. Brittany explains that although she felt alone at times, she knows that feeling was necessary for her to understand the atonement of Jesus Christ and begin to heal.

Before having her son, Brittany didn’t know exactly how she would care for him but has learned through trial and error. Brittany talks about the practical ways she has had to modify everyday tasks in motherhood and how she makes it all work. She had a hard time finding resources on mothering with a spinal cord injury and now actively shares her experiences on her instagram account hoping to inspire and help others.

“Being present is being productive” is Brittany’s motherhood philosophy and she shares what this means for her and how she implements it in her life as a mother.

Brittany talks about a beautiful message she hopes to share with her son as he grows up. Overall, she has amazing faith and trust in following the promptings God gives her, even when they don’t make sense in a worldly view.

Why You Don’t Need to Compare Your Spiritual Journey || Monica Packer

Has motherhood been anything but natural for you? How do you mother multiple children who are all so different? Does God really speak to you as an individual? Why isn’t your spiritual journey the same as someone else’s?

If these are questions you have asked yourself, you are not alone. Today I am airing a replay of an interview I did with Monica Packer of the podcast and website About Progress. In this interview we dive in to how Monica has sought to answer all of these questions and more for herself.

When I decided to replay an episode, I instantly knew it should be this one with Monica. I originally aired this interview as my 6th episode. I was still new and not only learning how to podcast but also what the purpose of my podcast should be.

Talking to Monica opened my eyes to a new perspective about how God communicates. Before, I thought I knew because I knew how He communicated with me, but after interviewing Monica, I realized I only knew my way of communicating with deity. I started to understand there are many ways God speaks to us because we are all individuals.

This interview led me to think deeply about how a relationship with God is not “one size fits all.” Talking to Monica helped me take a new approach. I didn’t need to give mothers a “formula” or  “how to” on recognizing and developing a relationship with God. I only needed to encourage them to figure out for themselves how He communicates with them.

SMM 031: How Have YOU Seen + Felt God as Your Partner in Motherhood?

How have you seen and felt God as your partner in motherhood? A while back I asked you, the listeners of the Spiritually Minded Mom podcast, to call in and share your answer to this question I ask in every episode.  Today, I’m sharing the answers I received. You’ll hear six moms talk about their insights and inspiring experiences with this important question.

How have you seen and felt God as your partner in motherhood?

Here’s a snippet of what you’ll hear:

Stacy, California

“Motherhood has allowed me to see the plan of salvation, how it works, and how it applies to me as a child of God, and then as their mother.”

Chelsea, Nevada

“I have really been guided in my journey to learn not just how to parent, but how to be a spiritual parent for my kids.”

Elizabeth, New York

“I’m so grateful that he’s still there, whether I’m seeking him or not.”

Megan, Utah

“The times that I do my part of being a partner with God, are the times I have definitely seen and felt God as my partner because I know he’s always there and always willing to help me.”

Natalie, Utah

“Even though it is hard. . . it is nice to know that the Lord is with me.”

Cheryl, Utah

“There are often times in parenting that I have no idea what to do or say, so often times I have dropped to my knees.”

How have YOU seen and felt God as your partner in motherhood?

At the end of the episode, I invite you to answer this question for yourself and give you a challenge to share your answer in a way that feels right for you.
